"25 Little Things in Life To Smile About"

Do you find myself going through life, day by day, wishfully thinking what’s next? Moaning about the weather and living for the weekend. All the while, missing the little things in life. The small moments and minor details we overlook daily, yet when we stop and think, we come to the realisation just how much we do actually appreciate them.

You know, the little things in life! The heart warming, good feeling, I don’t want to punch someone in the face kinda thing – haha.

So without further ado, here you have it, 25 little things in life that put a smile on my face.

[1] Instantly Drinkable Hot Drinks

Handing over money in any circumstance is hard enough, but when you do in exchange for that hot drink you have been longing after only to realise they’ve handed you a cup of MOLTEN HOT LAVA… great I’ve burnt my tongue. So you wait for it to cool down, then you forget about it and when you do remember it’s too god damn cold to drink. Well done, might as well have flushed money down the toilet. I would like to thank all those out there serving hot drinks at the PERFECT drinkable temperature, you guys are my hero. Here you go keep my change, you deserve it. In fact you can have all the change I have in my purse sweetheart, have yourself a splendid day.

[2] Peanut Butter

As if peanuts themselves weren’t good enough, now you can spread that sh*t on your toast. Hell you can eat it straight out of the bloody jar for all I care (that’s what I do) ENOUGH SAID.

[3] Finding Money You Didn’t Know You Had

If this doesn’t put a smile on your face, then I don’t know what will. Even if it’s just £1 I am over the moon. Sure it’s not gonna help me pay off a loan or make any sufficient difference to my mortgage deposit savings,  but it’s money at the end of the day and better yet it’s money you didn’t know you had. So turn that frown upside down and be thankful.

[4] Discovering Your Clothes Have Pockets

Not only am I happy that I’m wearing something other than my work uniform or gym pants. But know i’ve just realised this top, jumper, jacket, jeans, dress or playsuit has pockets and they are big enough to fit everything so no need to bring a bag, HALLELUJAH!

[5] When Plans You Are Dreading Get Cancelled

Not much to say about this one but we’ve all been there. Yup, I regret to say that sometimes I would rather laze around in my PJ’s on the sofa then meet you for drinks and a catch up. We’re human, it happens sometimes, Apologies.

[6] Waking Up With Goof Hair

If you’re like me, the thought of having to wash, dry, curl, straighten or style your hair on a daily basis is just a burden. So when I wake up, look in the mirror and my mane is whopping 10/10 I feel flawless. Nothing can get me down, no one can stop me. I am ready to seize this mother f*cking day.

[7] Technology

The fact that we are all walking around holding the internet in our pockets can sometimes blow my mind a little. As well as being able to chat to someone half way around the worlds instantaneously AND own just about every album known to man on our phones!

[8] Green Lights

Living on an over populated Island is bad enough, before adding cars to the mix. If I can drive from A to B without having to physically stop my car, I’m winning.

[9] Grated Cheese

I must say, cheese in general is a blessing sent from the gods. But the fact that in this day and age you can walk into a shop and purchase cheese that has already been grated for you is just, well AMAZING! This little bag of goodness will shave minutes off my sandwich making skills. Think how much time you’ll save in life, I’m sure it’s not that much. But if you add it all up you’ll be surprised.

[10] Not Having a Cold

A blocked nose is no laughing matter, so when you have two functioning nostrils count it as a blessing.

[11] When Your Birthday Falls on a Weekend

I love celebrating my birthday, more than most and I’m sure when I’m turning one hundred (I’m a big dreamer) I’ll still be ecstatic. So when this magnificent day falls over the weekend, I guess it’s just more of an excuse to go berzerk.

[12] Free Food in The Supermarket

Moments like these make me so excited, it’s not even funny. If you like free food samples, i suggest you get your arse to Amsterdam. Make it a day trip just to go into all the cheese shops, it’s a gold mine. But in any circumstances, if you’re somewhere that are giving out FREE samples ALWAYS I repeat ALWAYS take it.

[[13] Petting Random Peoples Dogs

That it’s socially acceptable to make a weird ohh/aww noise and run up to a strangers dog and touch it. Thank you very much. I find any social interaction with almost any animal can put a smile on everyone’s face.

14. WHEN YOUR SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER RUN OUT AT THE SAME TIME

This almost NEVER happens so when it does, know that you’re doing something right.

15. FREE ALCOHOL SAMPLES IN AIRPORTS

It’s 8am and I’m travelling to London for a business meeting. Sure, why not, ill try this new flavour of Baileys you’re promoting. Like I said earlier never pass up something if it’s free, especially alcohol.

16. WHEN YOUR PHONE SURVIVES A FALL

Don’t lie… every time your phone decides to pull a circus trick on your ass and skydives to the floor your heart falls to your butt and like buttered toast it ALWAYS lands screen down. So when you pick it up and it’s still in the same mint condition, you’re happy.

17. ONLINE ORDERING

Hell yeah! I can sit at home, on my laptop/phone, in no underwear, without any need for social interaction and buy anything and everything I need. Oh wait there’s more, sometimes it will arrive before the expected delivery date… MIND BLOWN!

 18. A RANDOM KIND ACT FROM A STRANGER

Whether it’s a smile, holding the door open, a compliment, letting you go when you’re driving or a helping hand. We as humans can get caught up in our own lives, places to be, people to see all that jazz. So when you stop and do something from the kindness of your heart, know that us on the receiving end are thankful. Keep up the good work everyone and do these more often. We need more people like you in the world.

19. WHEN YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS COMES ON THE RADIO

It’s almost as if the universe knew you weren’t in the best of moods, you’re just getting into the car/taxi, or walked into a shop/restaurant and BOOM… That song you love starts playing.

20. WAKING UP BEFORE YOUR ALARM GOES OFF

Now I’m not talking about an hour, half an hour or even ten minutes before. I’m talking with one minute, seconds to spare before that annoying song or tune starts playing. I feel like giving my body a pat on the back for automatically waking me up and saving me the pain of that hideous noise.

21. BEING IN A GREAT MOOD FOR NO REASON

I’m not worried, anxious, depressed, nervous, upset or angry and nothing pleasant I can recall has happened in the last 24 hours to put me in this chirpy mood. But I’m gonna roll with it and I’m damn sure gonna make sure you know about it (while grinning ear to ear).

22. WHEN SOMEONE SAYS YOU SMELL NICE

Thanks for noticing I doused myself in perfume this morning, although I can no longer smell it. It’s nice to know others can.

 23. CLOSE PARKING SPACES

When there is a parking space right outside the place I need to be. Can I get a whoop, whoop!

 24. WHEN SOMEONE PLAYS WITH YOUR HAIR

Hands down best feeling in the world, so if you aren’t doing this to the one you love I strongly suggest you start.

25. UNPLANNED MATCHING UNDERWEAR

If by some strange turn of events I find myself needing to strip down to nothing but my under crackers, I’ll know without a shadow of a doubt I’ll be giving off a good first impression. Coordination is key people!
